Cultural Integration
Stephenson is a Bachelor's student of Geoscience with a focus on international politics. Cultural globalization is featured in their work through modern motifs and techniques paired with their Scottish heritage. The work shown here is a traditional Shetland Lace Wedding Shawl made with a repeating triangular pattern. This work was the first of two shawls made, another in black that was commissioned for a friend (no images). The Ying Yang shawls, although culturally intended for marriage, were an exploration in identity within relationships, and finding love in platonic and familial connections. Like all of Stephenson's works, a single mistake was left in each shawl.
